Miss Earth Trinidad & Tobago Returns Home

Vanessa Sahatoo-Manoo

Port of Spain, December 22, 2011 - The charming Miss Oneness T&T 2011, Miss Melanie George-Sharpe delegate for the Miss Earth Beauty Pageant proudly represented our beautiful country at the 11th staging of the Miss Earth Pageant in the Philippines on Saturday 3rd December 2011.
I met with Melanie upon her return and she was thrilled at being part of such a pageant that focuses on both beauty of self and love for the environment.

All delegates were housed at the pageant’s official hotel, the beautiful Oakwood Premier.

Some of the major highlights that the delegates participated in were going to various supermarkets to promote the ‘Green Bags’ which were green bags filled with organic products, Universities, seminars and street parades that focused on the relevant environmental issues afflicting our planet and their respective advocacies.

Miss T&T spoke about the Nariva Swamp Restoration, Carbon Sequestration and Livelihoods Project (NSRP). This was well received by the hosts and they commended T&T for taking such an initiative in the Caribbean region. They also met and visited the Congressman Richard Ellis of Naga City and his establishment, where all produce were organic and where all lights were solar powered. They also participated in a tree planting exercise as well. Naga City is also referred to as the ‘City of Smiles’, and there Miss T&T was literally embraced very exuberantly by an adorable 6 year old. These people are very religious and the city itself has been referred to as the “Most Livable City” in the world. It is indeed a wonderful place to visit.

Miss T&T was admired for her poise and sophistication and was dubbed by the photographers and other delegates alike as “Michelle Obama” and some playfully called her Michelle.

On one special outing they visited Batangas, which is a city on the outskirts of Manila, and the Mayor of Batangas declared that day that they visited to be a holiday, so that the people got an opportunity to meet with them. The delegates were asked to plant a tree in their respective countries name. Those delegates were guests at the wonderful Golden Sunset Resort and Spa in Calatagan, Batangas, and a fashion show and swimsuit competition was staged, and Miss Trinidad &Tobago was chosen as one of the Miss Bikini Princesses. Other awards were as follows: Miss Thailand for the Miss Golden Sunset Resort and Spa, Miss Chile for the Miss Gandang Ricky Reyes award, Miss Runway Model is Miss Ecuador and Miss Bikini Princesses are Misses El Salvador, and Curacao.

Some of the other delegates that made a lasting impression on Miss T&T were Misses: Ghana, Brazil, India, France, South Africa, Belgium and Guadeloupe. Miss T&T’s stylist was none other than one of T&T’s noted fashion designers Mr. Derron Attz. Melanie was a vision of loveliness in his creations and many complimented her on the various hues and designs that complimented the Caribbean essence.

The Miss Oneness T&T Beauty Pageant wishes to express our sincerest thanks to all those who assisted with Miss T&T’s preparation: The Office of the Prime Minister, The Ministry of Housing and the Environment, The Environmental Management Authority - Dr. Joth Singh {CEO} and his staff, The Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism, Tourism Development Company Limited {TDC}, Mr. Hicks, SACHA Cosmetics, Citadel Limited, Mr. Samuel Saunders, Miss Molly Gaskin and the Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust, Evan Salina, Photo Concepts, Russell ‘Butch’ Limchoy, Rose and Lionel Jaggessar, Jordis Fashion Designs and Derron Attz.
