MISS EARTH T&T 2011 VISITS THE POINTE-A-PIERRE WILDFOWL TRUST

Gasparillo, Trinidad, November 12, 2011 - As part of her international preparation for the prestigious MISS EARTH Beauty Pageant to be staged in the beautiful Philippines, our Miss Earth T&T, the lovely Melanie George-Sharpe, was a guest at the POINTE-A-PIERRE WILDFOWL TRUST, situated ideally in the well secured compound of PETROTRIN. Unique to our Caribbean region, PETROTRIN has successfully linked the environment and development, offering a model of wise-use.

The Trust as it is popularly known is now in its 37th year, and is a National, Not-For-Profit, Environmental, Non-Government, Volunteer, Membership Organization, which focuses on environmental education and more importantly public awareness. Their research is ongoing in the field of breeding and the re-introduction programmes for locally endangered wetland birds. They lobby for overall improved environmental policies and implement the use of our natural resources.

The Trust’s President is Miss Molly R. Gaskin and its Vice President is Miss Karilyn Shephard.

Our Miss Earth T&T had the esteemed pleasure of being a guest at the trust and we decided with the astute guidance of the Environmental Management Authority {EMA}, that to further promote our environment that it was imperative to secure the use of the Trust as the venue for the Miss Earth’s Official Environmental Awareness Video.

Upon entering the secured compound of the Trust, we were greeted with the sight of the beautiful peacocks and then to our surprise “Frankie” the blue and gold macaw greeted us by saying ‘Hello”. He is indeed a fellow with a story to tell. I would advise you to ask one of the Educators to tell you about his touching life story and how he came to be part of the family of the P-A-P Wildfowl Trust.

The natural beauty of the Trust, the sweet smell of nature,  and the oh! so delightful sound of the birds fluttering by is one that is surely to warm your heart and make you feel “as if you are one with nature”. As the motto of the Trust says: TO KNOW IS TO LOVE, TO LOVE IS TO PRESERVE.

You can visit the Trust’s website http://www.petrotrin.com/WildFowlWeb/ for further information and tour schedule. It is indeed a worthwhile experience.

The Miss Oneness T&T Beauty Pageant wishes to sincerely THANK, Miss Molly Gaskin for her blessings in granting us the use of the facility for our taping; to Miss Karilyn Shephard SPECIAL THANKS for your efficiency in our correspondences, to our Educator, we wish to thank you for your time in sharing your knowledge, and also to Photo Concepts for their photos with our delegate.
To Mr. Evan Salina, heartfelt gratitude to you for your high level of professionalism and skills.
